Seated liberty dimes are one of a handful of coinage that feature the Goddess of Liberty in a Seated Liberty design. This design was featured on denominations such as the half dime, dime, quarter, half dollar and until 1973, the silver dollar. The Seated Liberty dime was minted from 1875 to 1878 but eventually discontinued due to similarities to the quarter.

Due to the difficulties these admired dimes had working in vending machines the Mercury dimes were redesigned in 1945 to feature president Franklin Roosevelt.
