Seated Liberty Dimes (1837 – 1891)

Seated liberty dimes are one of a handful of coinage that feature the Goddess of Liberty in a Seated Liberty design. This design was featured on denominations such as the half dime, dime, quarter, half dollar and until 1973, the silver dollar. The Seated Liberty dime was minted from 1875 to 1878 but eventually discontinued due to similarities to the quarter.

Winged Liberty Head (1916 – 1945)

Winged Liberty Head, or Mercury dimes, were struck by the United States Mint from 1916 to 1945. Often confused with the Roman god Mercury, the Winged Liberty Head dime gained is common name as the obverse depiction of a young Liberty. Due to the difficulties these admired dimes had working in vending machines the Mercury dimes were redesigned in 1945 to feature president Franklin Roosevelt.
