This excellent example of pre-33 gold is not only a beautiful piece to add to your collection, but its design has an intriguing back story.  In 1907 President Theodore Roosevelt felt American coins lacked beauty and character.  Being inspired by Grecian beauty, President Roosevelt hired famous American sculptor, Augustus St. Gaudens for the job.  The coin obverse design shows Lady Liberty walking while holding a torch and olive branch.  The reverse boasts an American eagle soaring above the sun.

The Double Eagle Gold Coin contains an actual gold weight of  0.9675 troy ounces.   The composition of this coin is of 90% gold with a weight of 33.4360g.  Although they still display their $20 face value, this pre-33 gold coin have a much greater value due to their gold content and historical value.
